Frangipani Profumo by L’Erbolario Lodi
Upon walking the streets of downtown Vicenza, my husband and I went into L’Erbolario Lodi. I walk by this store almost every day, but on a weekend in May was my first time going into the store. “L’Erbolario” translates to “The Herbarium” and this means a collection of preserved plant specimens that are used for scientific study. With that, there were so many natural scents that ranged from sweet, bitter, medicinal, and fresh throughout the products within the store. The Frangipani scent has a sweet and unique floral accord and it is my husband’s favorite perfume in the store. I had never heard of the Frangipani flower before this visit, so when I looked it up it is also called a Plumeria (a flower name that I’m familiar with). This fragrance encompasses the smell of the flower wrapped in warm notes of Amber and Cedar Wood, then topped off with citrus notes of Bergamot and Mandarin. Although it is described as a citrus and flowery scent, when I wear it, I can pick up notes of vanilla and then the base note of amber shines through. I know the heart/middle note of Frangipani is the reason why I can pick up the vanilla aroma, but it is cool how a perfume can smell so different once you spray it on yourself. I am looking forward to start wearing this perfume in the daytime during the fall and winter since it’s more concentrated of a scent to wear in the warmer seasons. I wouldn’t be opposed to wearing it during the nighttime during the fall either, but the occasion, outfit, and your mood must match this floral and woody scent. I was discussing the association with perfume and persona not too long ago with a friend my husband and I made here in Italy, and they couldn’t agree more. I will revisit this topic in a later post. I do think it is important to have one or two ‘signature scents’ to include in your perfume rotation, but venturing into new perfumes to wear is just like shopping for clothes: sometimes you need something new!
About a couple weeks after this perfume purchase, my husband and I took a weekend trip to a small town in Italy called Licciana Nardi. We spent our time at a beautiful Airbnb hosted by the most generous and friendly nonna who would share aperitifs and prosecco with us. On this trip I took it upon myself to film an unboxing video of the Frangipani Profumo by L’Erbolario Lodi to share to the ScentLena Instagram page! Please click the Instagram icon to see how beautiful the Airbnb outdoor space was, view the unboxing, and check out my other posts. Thank you so much for reading!
